Enoch Thayden Nipal-Roeun
Birthday 9/28/2020
Born 9 lbs 11 oz
Filipino-Cambodian

Enoch was born in Long Beach, California. He is the youngest of 5. His favorite food is rice porridge and scrambled eggs. His body will only tolerate a plant based milk. He loves Blues Clues and Encanto, although we think he moreso likes the characters Josh and Mirabel. He loves music. His favorite toys are everything of his brother’s (Kuya Titus). He does the best hulk smash impersonation. His favorite thing to do is cuddle mama.
Enoch got sick for the first time at 3 months old. He developed a fever, cough, runny nose, eye infection, and wheezing. All symptoms went away except his cough and wheeze. He was initially diagnosed with inflammatory airway disease after being blown off multiple times as possible bronchitis. He had thick mucous, wheezing, and low oxygen levels since 3 months old. He was rushed to the hospital in November 2021 with symptoms of black diarrhea, vomiting, loss of appetite, persistent 103 degree fever for 5 days, lethargy, constant crying, unable to sleep, swelling all over his body, and oxygen levesls dropping below 89%. We initially thought his beginning symptoms were from teething. After he began showing respiratory distress, we brought him to Long Beach Miller Children’s Hospital.
He was immediately given a blood transfusion and was told he had half the normal blood count in his body. Labs and ultrasounds showed that he had a kidney infection. He began swelling uncontrollably and required 2 rounds of albumin infusion to bring it down. He was losing too much albumin in his stools due to his diarrhea but the underlying cause for diarrhea was unknown. He still suffers from GI issues and edema. He was then diagnosed with hypoalbuminia and protein losing enteropathy.
Enoch’s blood pressure showed to hover over 130 for the systolic number (top number) even when under sedation. He was diagnosed with hypertension. They performed an endoscopy and colonoscopy with findings of lymphoid hyperplasia, however, we are unable to treat it because the form of treatment (steroids) will have a negative effect on his blood pressure. He currently takes probiotics twice a day to prevent persistent diarrhea that can cause further inflammation.
Ultraounds discovered that Enoch has extremely large kidneys – the same size as you and I as adults. We are still pending additional research from his genetic counselor as doctors work towards a definitive diagnosis for his kidney disease. His nephrologist states that Enoch is very special. All other patients with the same characteristic of Enoch’s case have not made it to Enoch’s age. “Unique” is what they label him. I think he’s more than that… I think he’s Highly Favored by our Almighty God.
Enoch was admitted again in January 2022 to Chidren’s Hospital LA. He had his first visit with his pulmonologist, who upon reviewing his case, felt that he needed to be evaluated immediately and urgently ordered testing to expedite his care. It was then, when we discovered that liquid had been spilling into his lungs since birth. His lungs have been soiled and in turn is the possible cause for the persistent mucous and wheezing. They performed an emergency bronchoscopy with bronchoalveolar lavage, nasal ciliary biopsy, laryngoscopy, and sleep study. He was diagnosed with dysphasia, central apnea, and hypoxemia.
Enoch can no longer drink any thin liquids without a thickener. He also requires supplemental oxygen during sleep.
Enoch is currently being followed by Nephrology, Genetics, Gastrointestinal, Pulmonology, and soon, Hemotology, Neurology, and Opthamology.

Do you know who Enoch is in the bible?
Our baby Enoch was named after Enoch in the Bible. He was Adam’s great-great-great-great grandson. You know – Adam, like the first dude ever? And Noah’s great grandfather – the guy that built that huggge ark.
Apart from his really awesome lineage, Enoch is also only one of the two people taken straight to heaven. That means he never died.
He was known to have lived a holy and faithful life to the Lord (Genesis 5).
Enoch was not simply a man who walked by faith; he was, in particular, a man who “walked with God” (Gen. 5:24). Enoch was pleasing to God because he not only lived his life by faith in the God of heaven and earth, but he also lived his life in intimate communion with God.
Because of his great faith, he appears to escape death.
I remember crying when my first pregnancy test after having our son Titus was negative. We wanted to have another baby shortly after we had Titus. We agreed it would be a good idea to have them closer together and be done. I probably tested over 10 times in one week, just hoping that we’d get a negative. After that month, I convinced myself that it was okay – stop trying. Maybe we weren’t ready. I forced myself to come to terms and had made up my mind. “We’ll wait awhile..
Then, that following month – I was late. I took a test and much to my surprise, it was positive. I remember feeling SO scared. I cried and ran downstairs to my husband because I had already made up my mind about not having anymore children for quite some time.
It’s funny, really. I prayed for this baby. God gave me this beautiful baby boy that I asked Him for. And I don’t believe it’s coincidence that we decided to name our precious baby boy Enoch. We had came up with that name even before he was born, and we promised to name our next son that before he was conceived. I believe all of this was ordained and in accordance to God’s will. I don’t believe in coincidence. I believe in God.
